SAMANTHA FOX WAS HERE
After the mid-1950s, mostly criminals and delinquents were sent to the Naked Island (Goli otok). Among the imprisoned were the still politically unsuitable individuals, like one man from a village in
central Croatia. He was sent to the Naked Island in 1983, after writing the graffiti “Long Live Croatia” and witnessed the brutality among prisoners. How are evil people created? What kind of society is this monument for? The model for the sculpture is made of concrete and terrazzo grains, the materials that were used by prisoner workers for the production of floor tiles.
Now, that same material is rising vertically, in the dimension of a young man.
Samantha Fox was the name of the youngest prisoner who was abused by other prisoners.
Using the same forms of expression related to the ones from the Naked Island, the most brutal prison of the former Yugoslavia, its primary role is being reinterpreted.
